So it's been awhile since I've gotten around to doing my Alien Drawings. I originally took a break because I was moving into a new apartment. I think I'm finally getting settled in the new place (actually have a office now to work on art and other projects) but I think I'm gonna put the Daily Alien drawings on hiatus for now.

Even though I have only been doing them for a few months I'm already feeling the drag of the project much sooner than I did when I did the 365 Cyborg series a year ago. I'm really happy with how a lot of them have turned out but I think if I forced myself to continue I'd end up posting a lot more lazy pieces with greater frequency, and that's not doing anybody good.

Hopefully this means there will be a lot more pieces of quality and not just quantity. I want to be able to work on projects not involving strictly aliens and not things that take just the span of a day. Also just being able to have a little more free time is nice, it seems like years since I've sat down and had some serious videogame time.
So looks like I'm gonna try my darndest to draw an alien everyday.
Check out the 365 Aliens Blog

Thanks to :iconchameleonbot: for the suggestion on the theme. You win a commission, congrats grad.

Ok, so I'm thinking about tackling another drawing a day project. Anybody have any great ideas of a fun category to draw 365 times?

I really liked the 365 Cyborgs because there was a lot of different things to pull from for characters. Ideally the new category would have some good variety (365 days of Transformers would kill me) of course have enough figures to draw from (at least 400 things to choose from would be nice)

If anybody ends up suggesting a great idea (and I end up using it for the year) they will get a free Character Portrait commission.

Get cracking! I need to start tomorrow!

It's been a little over a year now but I've finished up my year of drawing cyborgs. It's been a long journey with plenty of times when i felt drained or really wanting to move onto something else. I'm glad though that I stuck with this thing. While I think I had a few really good drawings early on, and some bad ones later in the game too, I think my overall ability has gotten better. Drawing pretty much everyday (some pauses for holidays and such) really strengthens certain muscles. While I doubt I'll keep up the pace of a "finished" drawing a day I'll hopefully be no slouch either. I am looking forward to working on some bigger projects that go beyond the span of an hour or two.

While sites like wikipedia may list off a bunch of characters it was hard to come up with 365 quality cyborgs. Not that every character I did was a gem, frankly I wished I hadn't done certain ones as I have since thought of some better possibilities. Thanks to everybody who helped with suggestions for cyborgs to draw. Some of my favorite pieces wouldn't have gotten made if not for a great tip.

So what's next?

365 days of Nicolas Cage!

Actually, I'm looking forward to catching up on some videogames (Just Cause 2, New Super Mario, Bad Company 2) and then hopefully really start fleshing out a comic book.

As many of you know I've been trying to draw 365 different cyborgs over the course of a year. I have about 60 left, or less depending on when you read this (now 20). I started last February and have missed a few days mainly because of stuff like holidays.

Anyways, finding good cyborgs is taking about as long as it is to draw them. I would rather not be stuck with C-list Marvel/DC characters so If you have any established fictional cyborgs that I may have missed let me know. I've been trolling Wikipedia, Comicvine, Wookipedia and a few other sites for Cyborgs but the good ones are getting hard to find. So unless you want to see 20 Terminator rip-offs (there are alot from Star Wars expanded universe) followed by lame Punisher villains drop a comment with a cool Cyborg. I'm trying to stick to well known established characters, so sorry no original characters.

I'll get it started...Mecha Hitler from Wolfenstein. I've stumbled upon him a couple times but keep forgeting to draw him. I hope this will be a good way to keep track of cyborgs I need to draw.

I guess I'm taking some commissions for art at the moment. Nice work quickly for a good price. Hoping it will be a nice diversion from these 365 Cyborg drawings I've been doing (thought if you are interested in a cyborg I'd be happy to oblige) If your interested drop me a note or leave a comment

Ugh, so after neglecting my computer acting up things have gotten worse. I'm pretty sure that I need to pick up a external hard drive, back everything up and reformat my computer. In the meantime I'm not touching my home computer till I have time to do that.

So, no art updates till then. *edit* Computer fixed *

Oh, and it would be interesting to figure out how to make a journal skin. Anybody know a good tutorial or wanna give me tha jist of it?

So my internet (and free cable) is down at home. I talked to Comcast (always a joy...) and they are going to send out a tech Sunday morning between 8am-10pm. They said that there may be some charges depending on the situation which kind of pisses me off if it may be true.

Anyways with my accessibility down for now don't expect any art updates (I'm looking at you Cyborg drawings (I'm still doing them so when I get reconnected expect a couple)) I hope though that when they fix it they don't take out the free cable thought. Oh well, I don't really need it or use it that often.

Also, does anybody know of a good brand of external hardrives? My Mac has been kind of sluggish overall recently. I've already moved a buch of art onto disc but I still have a bunch of pictures/music on the machine too that I don't feel like dumping off it.

Hey, I got free tickets to a rock and/or roll show tonight so didn't get around to doing a Cyborg drawing today. So I will draw any cyborg that the first person suggests to make up for the missed drawing. I will still do one for Sunday too.

So, please suggest a fun/random/something cyborg for me to draw. If, you are not the first to comment I will still probably draw your suggestions at some point.

Oh, and if it isn't a well known cyborg please leave a link or description. And if it's one I've done already I may not do it.

I just got done reading David Mack's  "The Alchemy" volume of Kabuki. I had already read the majority of the issues but I saw that the collected volumes came out recently and it was a must buy. First, it is an amazing piece of art (something that you look at and  just wonder how it got made) and secondly it deals with the idea of Art and creation and so much more. If you consider yourself an artist, or even if you just love a good read, you should pick it up, or at the very least take a serious look at a Barnes & Noble.

Oh, and I got Bionic Commando cheap thanks to ebay!

Just letting you guys know that I will be heading home to Indiana for a week for a wedding and general visiting. So I won't have easy access to a computer which means don't hold your breath for a Cyborg drawing (unless you can hold your breath for 10 days, and if you can you should be a scuba diver). Does this mean that when I get back there will be a big mass upload? Nope. The cyborgs said they wanted a vacation too, so seeing how they are jerks I'm gonna have a break in this 365 days of Cyborgs thing.

Speaking of cyborgs, I'm looking forward to the new Bionic Commando. Will I buy it? Not sure...

Well, I guess I should say I should be working on a comic. I'm at that point that I'm guessing allot of you have been at. You have a story (if not several) jumping around in your head, hell, maybe you even wrote some of it out. Then you move on to another idea to let that other story simmer on the back burner of your brain. Pretty soon you have a kitchen full of half baked ideas with nothing to eat.

I think my biggest problem is I can't keep things simple. My most recent idea was going to be about a guy who is running through a snowy wasteland and he thinks he may be going crazy. I had a couple images and lines in mind that seemed like a solid base. Then before you know it all this extra stuff worked itself in. Not that it didn't make it better but now it just seems to intimidating to my lazy ass. Then I think "Why do that super involved story when I have ten other older stories that may be better that I should get back to?" I love stories that have the type of plot where you can look back and see that there was some big plan to it not just writing by the seat of your pants and hoping it works out. But at the pace I'm going I think I may have to try to just crank something out.

This 365 days of Cyborgs thing I'm doing is a good step I think. It's getting me working more, not always on something I care about or want to do at the moment but it's forcing me to put pen to paper more consistently.

So a big part of this is just to make my self more accountable. Admit that I have a problem and that I should get to work.

Your spouse is usually smarter than you. The problem with this is I'm too dumb to listen sometimes. The most recent example of this is some stupid back and forth commenting on one of my recent drawings. She said I shouldn't bother with acknowledging it as it's just the internet being stupid. Short story even shorter is with each comment I've gotten more and more annoyed. What is worse is another artist :iconiandseniff: is shutting down his DA account because of he's sick of stuff like this. Frankly the site is worse for losing a legit artist. Even though I've only been a member of DA for a few years I've definitely noticed a shift in the type of art and people on the site. For every 50 idiots there is maybe one person who appreciates art. I'm just glad I've met enough decent people on this site to make it bearable. I just hope the site dosn't kill itself in the end.

So inspired by :iconiandseniff: and countless other artists before him I'm attempting to try and do a piece of art every day of the new year. Yeah, I am about a month late but no time like the present to puch present in the throat and make it go back in time. Ian is doing 365 days of Star Wars, another guy is doing Lord of the Rings, and a possible third :icontimkelly: may be doing He-Man. I couldn't decide on just one series to do that many pieces in. I tossed around the idea of TMNT and also actually Transformers and almost settled on Star Trek. Star Trek would have been a good balance to Star Wars. Both were friends at camp their first year, and then next year they got pretty popular at camp but then one started trying to be all... nah, not gonna bother digging into the new SW movies with some even lamer analogy.
Anyhoo, I decided against Star Trek because I really only like Next Generation. Sure Voyager and Enterprise were fun here and there but if I was going to devote a whole year to something it had to be something I though was completely cool. I decided against Ninja Turtles because frankly I'm not as well versed in it as I would like to be. I know the cartoon, original toys, and some of the early comics and that's about it. Still may pump out some TMNT art though.
So short story even shorter... I decided on 365 days of cyborgs. Not robots, androinds, or tin men (although the original tinman from OZ was a cyborg I think) just cyborgs. I don't think I have encountered a cyborg story I haven't liked on some level. As soon as cybernetics become cheap and not horribly disfiguring I'm getting myself a new laser jaw.
So to start off the year here is Geordie LaForge Not the first person to come to mind when somebody thinks of a cyborg, but he is. If you have any suggestions of must see cyborgs let me know because I'm sure by the time I get to 150 I'm gonna have to start thinking harder. This isn't going to be the only thing I'm doing this year as far as art goes, I'm mainly hoping this just makes be a better more devote artist. And well it has always been something I've wanted to try but for some reason I never thought of trying to do a theme.
Well whatever, enjoy internet.

After much scouring craigslist for quite some time I managed to snag a sweet deal on a PS3 just in time to be able to pick up my reserved copy of LittleBigPlanet.

I only got to scratch the surface of this gem of a game but am loving it. I popped in the disc and handed my wife a controller. She is not much of a gamer but can occasionally get into some games (castle crashers, rock band, Wii games) The game leads you right into a fun tutorial/opening credits  sequence. We played through the first handful of story mode levels, Corianne loved finding out she could mess with my guy, she stuck flowers all over me, so in retaliation I stuck a picture of Henry the 8th on her. She really enjoyed the fairly simple learning curve and the ability to interact with the game. After getting to some tricky parts it was getting late so she decided to stop playing.

She continued to watch a bit as I fiddled with the level creator. It does a good job keeping you from getting overwhelmed and I had some fun just fiddling with all the tools I had  and not really building anything except a big mess. Looking forward to really getting to know how it all works. The Forge in Halo 3 was one of my favorite parts (mainly in foundry) of the game and this is just leaps and bounds past this.

A perfect game for people who love games and are creative.

I have been keeping an eye on the game Little Big Planet for the PS3 despite knowing I shouldn't be. The reason I shouldn't is I do not have a PS3, nor do I really have a desire to get one besides the coming release of LBP. I already am lucky enough to have a Wii and 360 and should be content with that. Yet LBP looks like it is tailor made for a person like me.

Anybody have any postitive/negative views on the PS3? I don't know anybody who has one and have a fairly low view of it right now. Hmmmm.

Hey people who look at my art or anybody else, I got a proposition for you. I don't work on art as much as I should and so I'm hoping you will make me more accountable. How so?

Well I'll do some free commissions, is it still a commission if it is free? If you just want to see what I make that's fine but if you actually want the hard copy you can pay for shipping and then you get it.

I will do most anything you internet people want as long as I can figure out how. A good example of what I wouldn't do is a diamond sculpture of the cast of Full House, because I don't know what the dad Danny Tanner looks like. A good example of what I would do is an ink wash of the original host of Americas Funniest Videos.

You can either leave a comment on this thing or drop me a message at lukedenby@gmail.com.
